Just a Little Update, Yo

So I've been putting off the Flappy hat, but I promise I'll get around to it. Actually, I finished the body of the blue monkey... I'm not sure I fastened off the right way but a little improvising never hurt anybody. Actually, my most recent project that I have been working on is a pair of black fingerless gloves (this is the part where I insist that I'm NOT addicted to fingerless gloves, which is true because these ones are for a friend).
Anyway, about that monkey... I also did one of the ears, and I started the muzzle but I think I'm doing it wrong. I never knew a sweet, innocent monkey could be such a pain in the butt. So that leaves the other ear, two arms, two legs, and a tail (which are all the same so basically I have to make 5 little...arm/leg/tail things) and then all the embroidery. Oh yeah, and the hair. Good grief! I don't mind admitting that I like a project you start, crochet, finish, and weave in the ends. Done.
Now the only question is, do I finish the Flappy Hat first, or the tank top? Next on my list of goals is socks. :)

At long last

Okay, so I finally finished my rose-coloured pair of fingerless gloves that I mentioned in the last blog. Now I only have a hat (the Flappy hat by Chloe Nightingale), a Tank Top and *gulp* a monkey to finish before I can start new ones. Like so many other crochet proficients, I resolved to finish projects before I started new ones. I was mortified to read "Lola" in my last Lion Brand e-letter. It was exactly like what I do! Scary.
I honestly wish I could just unravel that silly monkey and erase it from my memory, but the crochet KITTY does not unravel her projects. She sticks with them, even if they are rediculously large with too much detail. But I am going to make my blue monkey and then do a project I'm looking forward to, and then sometime in the near (or perhaps distant) future, I will make a pink one, and then I will hopefully be done with monkeys forever. Besides, I've about exhausted my mom's supply of fiberfill stuffing... to replace the brain cells I've lost crocheting that thing! (Just kidding)

Fingerless gloves and monkeys and tank tops, oh my!

My mind is spinning as I try to comprehend all my current projects, but not literally. I began a new pair of fingerless gloves because I love my pink and green ones so much I decided to make a blue pair. (I'm going to make a rose coloured pair as well, in the coming weeks.) I'm one-fourth the way through the second glove, so I should have the pair finished by tomorrow.
I attempted to make the "Shades of Plaid Scarf" by Julie Armstrong Holetz ("Crochet Me", page 69), but I failed to realize that you need to stripe the scarf as you crochet, before you weave in the chains. So, my scarf kinda turned out striped instead of plaid. I'm going to sell it on eBay. (Next time I should learn to read the pattern better!)
Another project I started was the "5 O'Clock Tank" by Megan Granholm. "Crochet Me", page 99... or here's a picture, but this girl is NOT me, and I'm making mine in an aqua blue... http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1129/1057664538_edfcf605ac_o.jpg
The book said that the tank was relatively hard but I've found it easy so far. Maybe I just haven't gotten to the hard part yet. Or else I'm just really good, but honestly, who else but me could try to make a plaid scarf and end up with stripes?!
Finally, I'm making a ripple hat with some acrylic yarn I got for Christmas. The hat is really cute... I confess I've never made a hat before. I hope it works out because it should be really cute. I'll keep you posted!

Crochet on, meow.

P.S. Oh my goodness! I forgot to tell you about the monkey!! Wellll... I have two neices, aged 8 and 3. They both love monkeys and so I figured I would make one for each of them. The 8-year-old likes aqua blue and the 3-year-old likes pink, so I went ahead and bought the yarn to make each girl a monkey. I started the blue one first, and now that I'm halfway done I realize that it's a lot more work than I thought it was going to be. I figured it would work up fairly quickly, but I discovered that each monkey is nearly TWO FEET in length, and I found out that there will be a lot of detailed work involved. Ears and face, for instance. One thing I appreciate is that the arms, legs, and tail are all the same--you just have to make five of the same thing. Still... I would rather spend my time making something a little... less monkeyesque.

Kung-Fu Kitty, Meow!

Okay, so maybe I don't know kung-fu. Maybe I don't know any form of self-defense. But I can crochet up a storm. So I am the Crochet Kitty, and I got bored one night and decided to make a blog about all my crocheting successes and failures. Note the title of my blog. So things won't get bogged down, I'm not going to chronicle every crochet adventure since I was 5. I'll start with today.
I'm only making simple things currently. In the past two days, I've made two pairs of fingerless gloves. They were super-simple, except for one thing. The designer of the pattern failed to make a note that certain wearers are going to have oober-small hands, so I had to do a little impromptu decreasing. Another modification I made was leaving off the thumb. This made the gloves look more punk-youth. That's a look I'm going for, considering I want to be a punk youth when I grow up. The first pair of gloves I made was lime green (I used Caron Simply Soft, color Limelight), but I, always wanting to branch out and be independent, tried to make the second glove without a pattern. This meant that the second glove was longer than the first, against my will. So I had to lengthen the first one and now it looks weird, but only to another crocheter. The pink ones turned out fine. Here's the link from one of my favorite websites:

Today I also began a doubly thick potholder. They make wonderful gifts. My parents received a pair for their wedding, and now (27 years later) they still have them. I use cotton (you can use any yarn, but cotton is the most heat-resistent) and here is the link in case you'd like to make some yourself. http://www.mielkesfarm.com/diagonal_hotpad.htm
My next project will hopefully be a hat, so even if I'm falling on my butt while I snowboard, at least I can do it in style.

I shall update you as soon as I finish my current projects and begin new ones.
Happy crocheting!
